No 215 – Le Père Mathieu – Mario St-Germain & Dana Whittle

Deux hommes et une femme jouent violon, guitare et chantent ensemble dans une petite entrée de maison en été

Avec Mario St-Germain et Dana Whittle. Tourné à Sainte-Béatrix en août 2024. Sur un thème favori de la tradition où elle rime souvent avec boisson. Début 1990, grâce à notre ami Clément Lambert, on découvrait le personnage de Jean-Paul Guimond, fermier/chanteur en Estrie (Wottonville, QC). Monsieur Guimond allait devenir par la suite une source d’inspiration pour plusieurs de notre génération en quête de retour aux sources d’une ancienne tradition toujours vivante. Autant dans sa façon de chanter, que dans l’ampleur de son répertoire, il aura laissé sa trace dans l’histoire de notre patrimoine. Mario et Claude avaient appris celle-ci de lui du temps qu’ils jouaient ensemble dans le groupe Manigance.

In the early 1990s, thanks to good friend Clément Lambert, we got to know singer/farmer Jean-Paul Guimond of Wottonville, Québec, in the Eastern Townships. Monsieur Guimond would later become a source of inspiration for many musicians of our generation who sought to return to the roots of a living tradition. He left his mark on our heritage with both his singing style and the breadth of his repertoire. Mario and Claude learned this song from him during the time when they were both in trad band Manigance.
