Thanks again for coming to Fiddle Hell 2022!
It was a pleasure sharing tunes with you. There is probably some variation in these « partitions » (sheet music) from what Claude taught – thanks to the participants who shared their resources with us.
La Moquine
La Picouine
Valse Lisan
Here are some chords from Dana for the above tunes.
In my opinion, many tunes from Aimé Gagnon demonstrate a « cousinage » with the fiddle music of the Poitou region of France where the fiddle was long ago a popular instrument. The tune from Édouard Richard, which he called « Belle Catherine » on his album, is the second tune in the set of the « Suite à Ti-Douard » below. « La Belle Catherine » is the name of a dance that was popular in Québec. Different tunes were played for each part of the dance. « La plongeuse » (the diver) and « Le Cotillon de la mariée » (the bridal cotillion) are also titles for this tune which can be found in the archives of the Gaspé region.
And you were correct that the « Reel de la bourgeoisie » is indeed the « Reel Jean-Baptiste Gagnon » on Aimé Gagnon’s recording (folk process hard at work!). Marc Perreault is on the second album from Jeter le Pont, « L’Escapade ».
Le « Reel du lièvre » is not on the Aimé recording but you can hear and see it played by le Rêve du Diable here.
