Avant tout, un musicien pour «faire danser», Aimé Gagnon (1921-1997) n’a malheureusement jamais réalisé de disque de son vivant mais sa carrière de violoneux et ses nombreuses apparitions publiques ont laissé à sa famille des documents sonores d’une grande richesse. Danielle et Yves, ses enfants, nous offrent aujourd’hui la chance de partager cet héritage familial. Avec la complicité de Claude Méthé (qui a organisé, enregistré et joué sur beaucoup de morceaux),  d’André Marchand (technique) et Dana Whittle (design), ils ont regroupé sur ce disque compact les pièces les plus intéressantes du répertoire de leur père. Il est accompagné par les musiciens qui ont maintes fois partagé sa musique. Né à Lotbinière, un village situé à quelque 75 km à l’ouest de la ville de Québec, Aimé Gagnon avait un style fluide et gracieux, un répertoire original, hérité de sa parenté. Les profits de la vente de ce disque iront à la fondation Aimé Gagnon dont l’objectif est de permettre aux musiciens traditionnels de diffuser leur musique.

Aimé Gagnon (1921-1997), was above all a great dance musician. Unfortunately, he never made a studio recording while he was alive. However, as a result of his career as a fiddler and his numerous public appearances, he left his family a wealth of recordings. Danielle and Yves, his children, have given us the opportunity to share this family heritage. With the help of Claude Méthé (who organized the project and appears on the CD), André Marchand (sound technician) and Dana Whittle (graphic artist), they put together this CD which contains the most interesting tunes from Mr. Gagnon’s repertoire. He is accompanied by the musicians with whom he played the most. Born in Lotbinière, a village located some 75 km west of Québec City, Aimé Gagnon has a very graceful and flowing style and an unusual repertoire which he inherited from his family. The proceeds from the sale of this CD will go to the Aimé Gagnon Foundation which has been created to help traditional musicians promote their music.
